Mr Fix It
Beth's 2014 Jeep had a check engine light so I borrowed a friend's scanner to check it out. I googled the code and took the advice of cleaning the fuel filler neck and gas cap and retightening the cap ... it worked!
Our 10 year old Home Depot Christmas light-up snowman wasn't doing well; the lights in his head, hat and arms weren't working so I decided to perform surgery and replace the lights with a generic strand. It was harder than I expected, in part because the OEM lights were made on a custom loom to accommodate the arms and the lights had special clips to attach to the wire frame. It isn't perfect but the $10 investment in lights is good enough to keep him alive for another year.

what do you think about formula e seemingly wanting to replace all of their street circuits in the calendar with permanent tracks? it feels like it’s starting to lose its street circuit racing identity already (and, that’s more of a personal opinion, but the permanent track racing feels like it has been much worse, it just doesn’t suit formula e cars at all)
it's very odd, at a point when F1 can't stop adding street tracks specifically to get hype venues and big-ticket promotional races, Formula E is hiding itself further and further away in permanent circuits.
they're sort of doing it for the same reasons, is the funny thing. little circuits will host FE much cheaper than the immense cost and logistics of building a street track and the lower the bill, the bigger likelihood a local business or tourist board will foot it. for F1, the cost of building a new, permanent facility is so staggering even oil states would likely baulk at it now. Yas Marina has cost over $1.3 billion so far, which Abu Dhabi can foot but isn't small change even for them and has led to other programmes being focussed around re-using and extracting value from the facility. (like the autonomous racing thing I was at earlier this year)
not that street tracks come much cheaper but you can build them faster, for an instant gratification on that investment.
F1 can boast massive figures for what a city stands to gain for hosting a grand prix. $449 million additional spending for Miami, for instance. Formula E... cannot throw around those numbers. it's not really a tourism draw and personnel are limited. so to go to a facility that desperately needs events, with an audience reliant primarily on local interest, means it can show an impact. FE claims that it brought an $84 million boost to the Hyderabad economy, for instance but a lot of that will have been in circuit construction.
so the financials add up. but also FE is supposed to be its own, distinct, world championship with a high profile not "F1 but it's electric and goes to lower grade circuits."
if a series does not have a profile of sufficient size, it has no hope of selling out venues. this happened to F1 - Silverstone didn't use to sell out at all, you could walk up to the gate and buy a ticket and I'm talking, like, 2016 not 1994. it took a long pathway of turning its visibility around to reverse that and yes they hit lightning in a bottle with DTS during lockdown but even things like social media had been a huge start in undoing a long, regressive slide into an ageing, shrinking fanbase.
FE cannot be small. manufacturers like Porsche are not in it for it to be small - yes, it is a useful test laboratory for regen but with long periods of homologation for powertrains, the marketing has to be a significant part of the draw. and you also need, reasonably, to be able to succeed: a manufacturer's board will not keep signing off on a racing budget, however small, if there are no or frustrating results on track. and no marketing function.
I know I've been saying this for years but it's still true: FE needs to keep developing itself, keep acting like a startup (since it is one) and continue to grow. ever since COVID it feels as though the championship just said "ah well, this is what we are now" and decided it wouldn't try to progress anything any further. it's a very odd lack of ambition for what could be such a hugely important series both to OEMs and fans.

please help my broke ass pass emissions
hello everyone, I am a college student & part-time pharmacy worker with an older SUV that desperately needs some basic work done before it will pass emissions (technically due in may, I have until the end of june to figure it out before I really need to worry about my expired stickers)
my truck is an 8-cylinder beast with at least one plug that needs replacing, but I'd prefer to do them all if possible, to keep from having to repeat this when the next one goes out. I think I'm confident enough to do the work myself, I just need the parts lol
this is the least costly replacement that meets OEM standards. I need at least one (replacing position #5) but ideally a full set of 8, which would run just shy of $60 USD if I order them through this online seller, or about $90 if purchased at a local auto shop
in total I'm expecting about $140-160 worth of parts and equipment if I do the repairs myself! donations are welcome, but I am also happy to figure out commissioning info if anyone would like to buy digital or traditional art, textiles, crafts, writing, homework help, or other small goods and services!
vmo: @/duskingtide pp: @/calexico
dm for more sensitive info such as zelle if needed!
for your time here's a pic of my boy under a rainbow like god intended AND of course the requisite cat tax!
#text#you know the drill please consider reblogging!#if you're taking summer classes in chemistry math english or other college/hs subjects I am happy to tutor/help with classwork!#I'm pretty flexible I can do a lot of stuff if you want something in return :)

27/06/2022 - Aftermarket Woes
The door cards on the 90 have been tired since we picked it up back in 2016. I guess it’s one of those things that’s never a priority. But that being said when they’re basically hanging off you need to rectify the issue.
Typical failings of original door cards is when previous owners who don’t use the correct tools to remove the door card snap the plastic fixings which are part of the door card off leaving unsecured parts of the door card.
It’s worth mentioning the replacements are not OEM and they’ve been sat in ready to be installed since February. General observation of the door cards are they’re flimsy, don’t have the foam outer skin which I guess acts as sound deadening. The holes aren’t quite in the right places and it needs modification to fit the profile of the door… expected but annoying.
Parts list for the job.
ABS Plastic Door Card - RH Black with electric windows (TR232AEW)
ABS Plastic Door Card - LH Black with electric windows (TR233AEW)
Def Door Card Fixing Kit (DA4649)
Foam Spacer (MWC3137)
Door Lock Button Kit (DA2499)
I’m not super happy with the fit and need to revisit with more patience. Fitting the door card alone is achievable but if you have a spare set of hands it’s suggest take advantage of them.

Comparing two sets of third-party joycons
I bought two sets of Switch controllers recently and here are my thoughts on both of them! They are the Mobapad M6 HD and the NYXI Hyperion Pro.
Mobapad M6 HD
These guys retail at $80 (as much as OEM joycons!) and feature a whole suite of features that make them an extremely competitive option to actual joycons. Linear motors for HD rumble support, hall effect analogs, NFC reader for amiibo support, swappable Xbox Elite style d-pad and Nintendo cross d-pad, ergonomic shape, latch so securely to the Switch that there's no wobble on the joycons at all even compared to OEM, swappable faceplates and octagonal or circular stick-gates, swappable stick toppers, this one has it all.
Except the buttons are fucking awful! All of them! Not a single microswitch button feels good to press on these devices. The face buttons and d-pad both have absolutely insane travel distance on each switch, making the cross d-pad piece unusable and the Elite d-pad your only real option. The face buttons feel actively bad to press down. The shoulders are the only microswitches on these things that feel good to press at all. I actually regret purchasing these!
Which brings me over to,
NYXI Hyperion Pro
At barely $14 less than the Mobapads ($65.99) these have fewer features and lower build quality than the Mobapad M6 HD. They do not boast HD rumble or an NFC reader, they use rubber connections on the ZL/ZR buttons and ABXY face buttons. They do have hall effect sticks and back buttons, and the perk of a connective bridge piece to use it as a controller. They do not latch as firmly to the Switch as the Mobapads do, and the right joycon seems to latch slightly less firmly than the left. The ergonomics are still good and they have their own replaceable stick toppers. The RGB effects on it are kind of annoying and obtrusive, and I turned them off in a hurry.
But the buttons don't feel like absolute garbage. Which is absolutely the important part, you push buttons on these things. The d-pad and face buttons do not have insanely high travel, in fact their travel is rather short. The d-pad and L/R shoulder buttons seem to use the same microswitches, which are short travel, snappy, and not loud. The d-pad has a good pivot point and doesn't press down in any direction when I push right on its middle. The shoulders have a firmer rubber membrane than the face buttons do.
Unfortunately I think the Hyperion Pros win this one even though they're the cheaper product and NYXI is not a terribly high-quality manufacturer. For $14 less and several fewer features, you get a significantly better controller experience that's still comfortable, comes with a bridge to connect them to as a wireless full controller, and optionally has some Gamecube nostalgia pandering. It's actually kind of flooring how bad the Mobapad's controls feel in comparison. Why? Why would anybody want a half an inch of travel distance on a face button for a game controller????
